Treatment Options for Adult Acne and Acne Scarring

Can adults get acne? Yes. Acne is among the most common skin conditions in the U.S., affecting around 60 million people each year. While many cases are mild and may be controlled with prescription drugs and a consistent at-home cleansing routine, some patients have severe acne that leads to scarring.

Struggling with acne as an adult? There are other options to Isotretinoin, which you may have heard of under the brand name Accutane. For less severe cases of acne, prescription medications, like topical creams and solutions that contain retinoids, salicylic acid, sulfur, and benzoyl peroxide, can help.

There are also oral antibiotics, topical prescriptions, phototherapy, and laser therapies, which have proven effective. Not only can laser therapy help to cleanse and remove dead skin cells beneath the dermal layer, laser therapy can also help reduce redness and other pigmentation issues associated with acne.

Concerned about acne scarring? We use state-of-the-art procedures and technologies to lessen the appearance of acne scars. Ask our providers about lasers for acne scarring.

Contemporary Dermatology's team of board-certified dermatologists can discuss numerous treatment choices, ranging from custom at-home cleaning methods to medications and laser treatments.
